Red, White and Blue: Arkansas Razorback Ready to Go For 9/11 Tribute

By Adam Kramer   Sep. 08, 2011

The Arkansas Razorbacks will be honoring the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 terrorist attacks, and have painted the on-field Razorback red, white and blue (seen above) for their Saturday game against New Mexico.

And while the gesture on the field is certainly fantastic, the athletic department isn’t just stopping there. In fact, they want the fans to get involved to create what should be a very memorable game day.

In addition to the patriotic Hog, part of the tribute is the athletic department asking fans to wear red or white, depending on seating location for the 6 p.m. game against New Mexico. Students are being given blue shirts to help with the event. Odd-numbered sections are designated for fans in white and even-numbered sections are for fans in red.

We can expect to see many superb gestures on both the college and pro level throughout the weekend to honor the anniversary.

It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years…

Very cool gesture. Hoping to see many of these. This of course, reminds me of how proud I was of the Aggies pulling together at the last second to do something similar just after the attacks 10 years ago. I could sum it up, but the Wiki does it pretty nicely: “…on September 22, 2001, the first game for the Aggies after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the students organized a “Red, White and Blue-Out.” Students assigned each deck a different color (red on third deck, white on second deck, and blue on first deck) to wear for the game against Oklahoma State. Despite the short notice, attendees followed the instructions, resulting in a red, white, and blue stadium. More than $150,000 was raised in shirt sales, which was donated to FDNY charities.”
Very cool stuff. There’s a great picture of it there as well at:

Love the colleges, teams and students showing pride in their country.
