Video: Riley Nelson Celebrates With a Referee

By Adam Kramer   Oct. 29, 2011

BYU quarterback Riley Nelson had an eventful evening. While he wasn’t superb, and had moments where he was an integral piece of bizarre plays like this, he also did some good things as BYU kept it closer to TCU than many would have imagined after going down early.

While TCU prevailed 38-28, Nelson gave us a 2011 first – a good ol’ fashion referee high five after converting on a 2-point conversion. NCAA ruling says it’s not a penalty if the referee actively completes the high-fiving motion or something.

Love the rule explanation – “or something”
Expect to see lots of copy-cats trying to do this, and – expect some big fails.

      GO PENN STATE! CONGRATS JOEPa!!!

      This guy is a jerk.
The guy was down on the 2 yard line.
With a 15 yard penalty for hitting the ref, the ball should be on the 17.
The coach should have sent in a new QB.

The guy was only showing his enthusiasm. That’s how the game is suppose to be played. If you never played you wouldn’t know that.

This is a great clip of a guy who was stoked to get in the enzone.

Ute fans should worry more about filling your paltry 45,000 seat stadium then plays from a formal rival.

This guy plays with enthusiasm. I’d rather watch a college game than any NFL game any day of the week.

His knee was not down. Look closer. That leg slipped out but it didn’t touch the ground. Plus, he was just having fun or maybe had a brain fart about who was in front of him when he wanted to celebrate. Either way, sad to see that are still idiots on the web to tie religion in with a football game. Grow up and also find a life so you can complain about that instead.

At 13 seconds you can see his right knee is clearly down. It also has to be down in order for the QB to continue his motion forward, otherwise he’s floating. So no two point conversion and a fifteen yard penalty assessed on the kick-off.

He’s having fun. Lighten up. Some people forget about that aspect of the game. The ref had a good sense of humor too or else he would’ve flagged him.

IF his knee was down it was after the ball was over the goal line. And what is determined here doesn’t count anyway, lighten up.

If the Ref didn’t have a problem with the high 5 why should anyone else?

At 13 seconds his knee is clearly not down. watch his foot push off while his knee stays up. Nuff said @ Ruiner

Winning at all cost and a little humiliation. This will be a classic for people to gloat or laugh at.
