Warn the wives, ditch the girlfriends, make sure your controllers have loads of batteries and load up on your favorite drink of choice. The day has come once again.
It’s NCAA ship day.
College football’s one and only game is hittin’ stores on Tuesday and I am in full-nerd mode, excited beyond belief.
After logging some serious time with demo and reading IGN’s review of the game, it sounds like ’11 is shaping up to be the best NCAA in years, and by far the best installment on next-gen systems.
EA has finally take advantage of their partnership with ESPN, which was something I absolutely loved in the demo. Aside from this, they’re really cleaned the game play up and created a much smoother overall product. Perhaps the coolest addition, however, is the fact that you will now be able to recruit an mange your online dynasties from your PC.
FUN FACT: My fiancé is not amused, impressed, or happy about this at all.
The NCAA 11 ship day means more than just getting your hands on a new game of your favorite sport. It’s a sign that the season is almost upon us and we are now less than 2 months away from opening kick. I think I speak for all of us when I bellow out a collective “THANK GOD.”
In any event, rest up, football fans. We’ll be doing our NCAA season simulation to see which teams play for the title, who walks away with hardware, and etc. Yes, we are really, really big football nerds but god damn do we love it.
Alcohol-related incidents are in the air. (Still cringing after watching the video above)
Only a few days after Tennesse’s Knoxville bar fight, and less than a week after university AD Damon Evans got himself fired after his drunk driving escapades, two Bulldog players are now in potentially serious trouble, and guess what?
THERE”S BOOZE INVOLVED. (And it sounds like there was lots of it.)
Sophomores Dontavius Jackson (running back) and Tavarres King (split end) were stopped around 3 AM on campus and arrested early Saturday morning. Jackson got the majority of the charges including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and following too closely. Really with the last one?
Cornerback Jordan Love was arrested earlier when he got into it with a police officer, making July quite unkind to Georgia as a whole.
Head coach Mark Richt knew of the arrests but is waiting to hear more details. With the possibility of a hit-and-run involved, it wouldn’t surprise me to see both get the boot from the team. Jackson was in a bizarre situation this past April when he reportedly attacked a married couple. This situation is still being sorted out as well.
With the microscope on the university, particulalry after the much-talked about Evans arrest. I would be shocked if discipline wasn’t fast and furious.
This also once again proves that nothing good happens after midnight, unless it’s a 10-piece Chicken McNuggest, Big Mac and buffalo sauce from McDonalds.
I’ve nearly exhausted everyone of my USC analogies, so I suppose a picture of the Titanic does the job.
Junior fullback D.J. Shoemate has jumped on the I’m-getting-the-^%$&-outta-here train (or boat if you want to keep up with the photo) and has decided to transfer to UCONN.
Shoemate, like those before him, attributed this move to something other than USC getting porked by the NCAA, saying he’d like to play running back vs fullback and that the position was simply too crowded. This kid is a fantastic all-around player, and he was expected to compete for the starting job and get a good chunk of carries this year.
In actuality, the NCAA rulings that juniors an seniors could transfer without having to sit out a season was a blessing for a guy in Shoemate’s position. I’m sure Lane Kiffin would just love hearing that.
Shoemate is the 3rd USC player to transfer this week, following in the footsteps of defensive end Malik Jackson who took off to Tennessee and Byron Moore who transferred to a junior college, and the fourth player overall.
With camps set to get going in a couple of weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if anyone else decides to make the jump.
My bet is yes.
