Bodog’s Big Ten Odds: Welcoming Nebraska as the B1G Chalk

Last Wednesday, Bodog posted their win totals for all college football conferences as well as the divisions. While we featured the SEC first to coincide with SEC Media Days, the site then pulled down the odds for a few days only to put them back up Saturday more or less unchanged.

We turn our focus to the Big Ten, who gets their divisions (if only they had better names) and a new team which heads into the season as significant favorite according to the odds makers.

Nebraska opens as 8/5 favorites to win the conference, and a 1/2 favorite to win the Legends division. Right on their heels is Wisconsin, who opens as the second choice at 13/1 and a 7/5 favorite to win the Leaders division. Ohio State, a team many certainly will have their eyes on for a variety of reasons, is the third choice on the board at 5/1 for the conference and 2/1 in their division.

In terms of value, it’s tougher to find given the fact that the B1G is pretty top heavy and surprises will be tougher to come by. If you’re a believer in either Penn State or Michigan State you can catch a decent price betting them in either spot, but other than that there isn’t a ton of long shot-bets that feel very live.

As for the full odds, here they are.

  • Handicapping Podcast: Big Ten Win Totals

Drew Collins from Chuckoliver.net has teamed up with Bud Elliott from Tomahawknation.com and myself, and we’ve decided to embark on a weekly handicapping podcast for all things college football. Although we have no actual games to discuss outside of the future lines posted on just a handful of sites, we’re keeping ourselves busy with a variety of different handicapping topics.

The last two weeks have been all about predicting the win totals and setting the line for the season. While these numbers aren’t out quite yet (should be any day) we tackled the SEC last week and moved on to the always-exciting Big Ten. Included are some interesting thoughts on reasonable expectations for Ohio State, some very unimpressive out-of-conference scheduling, and who we deemed the favorite in the conference overall.

    Full audio below. Cheers.

  • Odds Breakdown: Pick Your Conference Championship Winners

The Las Vegas Hilton along with other books have been busy the past few weeks, and although we’re still seventy-plus days away from actual college football, folks are lining up (literally) to wager on a variety of different college football betting options.

Yes, you can bet on the Heisman. At the Golden Nugget you can actually wager on actual college football games in December at this very moment. And then there’s the option to wager on the BCS Champion. Now, however, the Las Vegas Hilton is opened for conference championship betting.

Your favorites heading into the season: Florida State and Virginia Tech (co-favs), Nebraska, Oregon and Alabama. No surprises there.

Feelin’ Lucky? The teams with the longest odds: Wake Forest and Duke (co-non favs), Indiana, Washington State, and Vanderbilt.

The teams with NO odds: Yes, USC is on this list but only as an “also ran.” Seems strange seeing them as N/A, but there will be no postseason play for them this year and therefore cannot be bet.
