The Most Important Gator Bowl Rings Ever

Two teams, one bowl game, one winner. Never has a meaningless bowl game been more important than this one. Except perhaps most other meaningless bowl games in 2011, but this one was important too. REALLY IMPORTANT.

The winner would be 7-6, the loser would finish the year under .500. So much to gain, so much to lose. The 2011 Gator Bowl was the game with everything on the line, and in the end the Gators came away victorious against Ohio State. What a game. It’s one of those that you’ll show to your son in 25 years and say, “I can’t believe I watched the whole thing.”

What do you get for winning the Gator Bowl? I’m glad you asked.

If you’re Florida you get a full mouth full of irrelevance, which probably tastes a lot like Gatorade shortly after you brush your teeth. Oh, and you also get a ring!

Thanks to Trey Burton, we know what that ring looks like. And who says 7-6 in the SEC doesn’t have its perks.

  • This Moment in Tailgating History: SEC Dance-Off

I’m not happy that it took until Thursday to see the video below, but I am happy that once again the Internet prevailed.

If anything can accurately sum up the excellence of the SEC, it’s two LARGE shirtless fans from opposing fan bases having a dance-off on a random street sign. While many of you might have seen this already, some of you, like me, might have somehow missed this Golden Corral striptease.

If the SEC doesn’t win this year’s national championship and can no longer promote their sixth consecutive national championship, perhaps a scene from this lovely encounter will do just fine. And although LSU won last week’s game rather easily, I feel like we’re all winners at the moment.

  • Video: Jeff Demps is Really, Really Fast

An 84-yard touchdown run that involves a gaping hole and almost zero moves to avoid tacklers is rarely something to slobber over. Sure, 84 yards is a long way to go, but there’s simply nothing that exciting about a straight run with very little competition from the opposing team.

Gators’ running back Jeff Demps and his touchdown run against Kentucky on Saturday night is a glaring exception to this rule.

Demps, who has been clocked in the 100 meters at 9.96, is a special kind of fast. While 40-times are exaggerated to excite fan bases that are marveling over the potential of an incoming player’s speed, Demps has world class wheels, and I’m already anticipating just what his Combine run will be. This past weekend he showcased his speed in the most majestic/boring way possible.

A true indication of speed is a bad angle or in this case “angles” in the secondary. This is also an indication of a bad team, but you know what we’re getting at. Demps provided quality entertainment and 7 points by simply being faster, MUCH faster than anyone else on the field.

Did we mention he’s REALLY fast?
