After a tough, soggy 6-hour loss in week one, Notre Dame is looking to bounce back this week as they head to Michigan for the first ever night game in The Big House. Outside of the game being the hottest ticket in football, both teams will be wearing retro threads to celebrate the occasion.

We’ve featured shots of Notre Dame’s retro uniforms before (equipped with awkward mannequin) but we haven’t gotten to see the head gear just yet. Until Wednesday.

While the response regarding the uniforms was mainly positive, the reaction to the helmets that ND will be wearing was mostly the opposite. Notre Dame fans in particular weren’t thrilled when ND released the image above.

I do prefer Notre Dame’s simple look overall, and think they have one of the top five uniforms in all of football. With that said, the uniform debate is now jaded following the wardrobe disasters that occurred last weekend. It’s one game, and it’s also a nice break from your college football expansion madness.

On September 10th, Notre Dame and Michigan will play in the first night game ever played at the Big House. To celebrate such the occasion, each team will be wearing throwback adidas uniforms that should add further hype to an already anticipated early season showdown.

While we’ve seen mockups of these designs over the past few months, Notre Dame officially showcased these uniforms on Thursday.

Fans have a tendency to overact to uniform changes in general, even if it’s just for a single game, but I’m diggin’ these. The jerseys are simple, they certainly have the vintage feel, and it’ll add another intriguing element to a game loaded with potential story lines.

With that out of the way, you can now spend the rest of the day wondering why this mannequin thinks he’s better than you.

Notre Dame’s retro unis are in. Well, at least one of them is.

Earlier this month, Notre Dame announced that the school would be wearing retro-type uniforms for their September 10th game at Michigan this year. Although we saw designs of what these uniforms would look like, Brian Kelly shared the photo above on his Twitter page giving fans an actual look of what the Irish will be wearing.

“Since 1997, adidas and Notre Dame have had a strong relationship and we are glad to produce an exciting opportunity for our student-athletes and fans by creating vintage uniforms for this game,” said Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick. “Special events like this make college football unique on the sporting landscape and we are happy to partner with adidas and Michigan in this project.

Notre Dame’s retro partner will also be wearing a much different look, and fans will certainly have mixed reactions to each of these come game day. In terms of uni above, players enjoy this, as do fans (for the most part) and they should.

It’s different, bold, and another intriguing aspect to a game loaded with it. And in the end, this is creating more build up for the September 10th sundown showdown in the Big House.
