Virtual Simulation Stimulation: Week 6

Although this week’s slate o’ games doesn’t quite matchup with what we’ve seen in the past few weeks, there are still plenty of fascinating possibilities on the card.

Welcome back to Virtual Simulation Stimulation, where we let technology – and more specifically NCAA ’12 – do our work for us. Using this game, we simulate all the weekend’s biggest showdows and report the findings. It’s obviously really important and necessary that you read this.

We’ve neared the halfway point of the college football season, which means it’s time to tally up just how our simulations have done thus far. In our feature games, NCAA ’12 is 16-9 in picking winners. Not too shabby, but we’re hoping to even improve that number in the second half of the season.

Week six features a handful of intriguing games including the highly anticipated Red River Shootout. Here’s what NCAA ’12 predicts will happen.

Missouri 23, Kansas State 10

Undefeated no more. Missouri heads to Manhattan and takes down undefeated K-State with ease. Mizzou quarterback James Franklin isn’t sharp, finishing 13 of 36 for 201 yards. Kicker Grant Ressell picks up the slack, however, and kicks 4 field goals, 3 of which are over 40 yards. Kansas State turns the ball over five times and only finds the endzone once in this one. After the game, Bill Snyder is so upset about the loss he stays up until 8:30 p.m. to stew about it.

Arkansas 24, Auburn 17

After two weeks of absolute punishment, Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson finally feels the effects and throws for just 176 yards an a touchdown. Not terrible, but the stable of backs lead the way here and combine for 177 yards and two touchdowns to lead the team. Michael Dyer gets 105 yards and 2 TDs for the Tigers in the Auburn loss. Bobby Petrino celebrates by providing his quarterback with some legitimate protection the next game. A stunning development indeed.

Georgia 21, Tennessee 12

Not nearly the amount of offense that many are anticipating, but UGA will take it either way. Quarterback Aaron Murray only completes 11 passes but 3 of those find the endzone. On the other side, Tennessee running back Tauren Poole provides the lone TD for the Vols and finishes the game with 90 yards on the ground. Mark Richt Hot Seat Alert Update: We’re now at OW THAT BURNS, a significant downgrade from GOOD LORD EVERYTHING IS IN FLAMES.

LSU 34, Florida 10

The LSU offense goes HAM, and they get 508 yards on a solid Gator defense. Tiger wide receiver Ruben Randle catches 10 balls for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns to blow this game wide open. Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps give Florida a solid showing on the ground, rushing for a score and 143 yards combined. Will Muschamp declares himself the starting quarterback for the following week, but quickly changes his mind after Les Miles trades him Jordan Jefferson for the first season of Dexter.

Oklahoma 31, Texas 24

Ah, the Red River Shootout and Texas jumps out early on. While the Longhorns grab a 13-0 lead, Oklahoma storms back to score 20 unanswered points. Landry Jones throws for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns, 2 of which go to his favorite target Ryan Broyles. Texas freshmen Malcolm Brown rushes for 95 yards and a touchdown, but a late OU touchdown seals this one. You can catch all the highlights of the Longhorn’s big win on the Longhorn Network at six o’clock. Perhaps you didn’t hear me, I SAID ‘WIN.’

  • Virtual Simulation Stimulation: Week Five

For the first time all season, a Big Ten matchup is our top game in our Virtual Simulation. Some might argue that Alabama/Florida is worthy of the #1 spot – and there’s certainly an argument to be had – but frankly the Big Ten fans (raises hand) are dying for something to talk about and OMG HAVE YOU SEEN RUSSELL WILSON?!?!

If this is your first helping of our virtual simulation, here’s the rundown. We simulate college football’s entire week of games using NCAA ’12 and report the findings. I’m just as surprised as you that this somehow has become a regular feature, but it has become a weekly ritual here on K ‘n E.

The week five slate o’ games is impressive, which is why we’ll let a video game do the picking for us.

    Georgia 42, Mississippi State 28

With each team in need of a big win, UGA comes out and sticks it to the Bulldog defense. Aaron Murray throws for 275 yards and two touchdowns and Isiah Crowell adds 155 yards on the ground and two more scores. On the other side, running back Vick Ballard goes for 133 yard and two scores, but it is not enough as Georgia rolls. The Mark Richt Hot Seat Alert Level has been lowered from BLAZIN’ to HOT AS HELL.

    Arkansas 31, Texas A&M 24 (OT)

Despite being outgained in yardage 420 to 331, Arkansas rallies in the 2nd half one week after Bamageddon to pull off a big OT win in Dallas. Hogs’ QB Tyler Wilson only throws for 229 yards but manages to toss 4 touchdowns. A&M’s Ryan Tannehill throws for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns, but is unable to find the end zone in OT giving Petrino and Co the win. If you wanted to know what going 7-5 in the SEC felt like each year, you’re starting to find out.

    Virginia Tech 27, Clemson 14

Clemson’s undefeated run comes to a screeching halt in their first road game of 2011. VT running back David Wilson runs for 122 yards and two touchdowns as the Hokies jump out to a 14-0 lead and never look back. Clemson QB Tajh Boyd completes only 13 passes for 125 yards while adding an interception as Blacksburg gets the best of the Tigers. Dabo Swinney attempts to put Frank Beamer in a submission move after the game but becomes winded and decides to go home instead.

    Alabama 28, Florida 23

Alabama’s 21-point 2nd quarter is the difference in this one as the Tide go on the road and win in Gainesville. Trent Richardson runs for 110 yards and adds 55 yards receiving to lead Bama on offense. Gator QB John Brantley is very good, throwing for three touchdowns and zero picks against the nation’s best defense, but Alabama finds a way to win. Will Muschamp takes the loss in stride and only smashes hit head through his office drywall versus hurling his entire body through it like usual.

    Nebraska 41, Wisconsin 14

College GameDay, Madison, a night game and the first true Big Ten game of the season weren’t enough to keep Wisconsin from getting blown out at home. Although the Badgers jump out to a 14-0 lead behind two Montee Ball touchdown runs, that’s all the scoring they do for the game. Taylor Martinez throws for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns and runs for one more as the Cornhuskers enter the B1G in style. The YouTube video of Bo Pelini trolling Wisconsin fans at campus bars crashes the Internet the very next day.

  • Virtual Simulation Stimulation: Week 4

Week four is where things get interesting, and if the simulations below play out we are all in for a superb college football weekend. Unless, of course, you’re an Alabama fan.

For those of you that are new to this informative nonsense, here’s the deal. Using the all-knowing NCAA ’12, we simulate the week in college football and report thing findings. As much as your hate mail about my picks is appreciated, this is the game’s work not mine. Feel free to send it anyway if you please.

Onwards we go to week four, where Alabama and Oregon go down according to the game. Oh, and Ron Zook loses to Western Michigan in the most Zookian performance we’ve seen in quite sometime.

    Cheers.

    Arizona State 27, USC 17

Brock Osweiler completes 50% of his passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns as the Sun Devils bounce back from getting Zook’d only a week ago. On the other side, Matt Barkley is not quite as good throwing for only 130 yards on 29 total attempts. And yes, the Pac-12 officials even cooperated accordingly, throwing 21 total penalties in this game. No word on total Vontze Burfict decapitations, but we’ll assume there were many.

Florida State 26, Clemson 23 OT

E.J. Manuel plays in this particular simulation, but doesn’t play very well finishing with three interceptions and 168 yards of total passing. Clemson running backs Andre Ellington and Mike Bellamy combine for only 77 yards rushing as this one stays ugly but close. The Seminoles seal the deal in OT with a game-winning touchdown and Clemson  finds a way to lose. Yes, we’re just as shocked as you are.

    LSU 34, West Virginia 31

Despite being doubled in total yards, West Virginia makes this one a a game at home. Geno Smith completes only 11 of his 37 passes, but three of those completions are touchdowns. LSU running back Spencer Ware enters Beast Mode, however, and goes for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 15 carries as LSU nips the Mountaineers in the final five minutes. Although couch burning is now a felony on Morgantown, you have to imagine th- /begins lighting everything on fire

    Arkansas 33, Alabama 29

The Crimson Tide turn the ball over five times (#NotreDame’d) which gives the Razorbacks the openings they need on the road. The Alabama quarterbacks combine to throw for 245 yards and three interceptions, while Tyler Wilson throws for 288 yards and two touchdowns while also running one in. Down goes the number one team says NCAA ’12, although I may wake up tomorrow with a poisoned XBOX 360.

    Texas A&M 49, Oklahoma State 30

Hello, points. A&M jumps out to a 28-7 lead and really never looks back. Their 508 yards of total offense almost doubles that of OK State as they win easy. Ryan Tannehill throws for five touchdowns, all of which are to different receivers. Meanwhile, Brandon Weeden is held to zero touchdowns and only 175 yards passing in the loss. Fun Fact: a streaker was removed from the stadium during the halftime celebration. That streaker was a rather intoxicated Dan Beebe.
