Video: USC players hit the campus and classrooms in full pads

By Adam Kramer   Apr. 23, 2012

If you’re wondering how to market your football team, look no further than what USC is doing in the month of April.

It’s easy, really. Send some of your team’s most recognizable players – including a Heisman trophy favorite – around and have them interact with students and sit in on classrooms. And yes, they even answered organic chemistry questions.

It’ll cost you practically nothing, just a film crew for the afternoon (some students would die to do this for free anyway), and it makes for wonderful watching.

What’s that? You don’t have a Matt Barkley on your team? Well, then you’ll have to make the most of what you got, and chances are it won’t be this good.

Kudos to the Trojans, this is excellent.

  • Texas A&M Officially Joins SEC With Awful Rap Video

By Adam Kramer   Apr. 19, 2012

They’re not officially in the SEC yet, but it certainly feels like it now.

SEC teams have a knack for creating horrible music videos to support their school and then posting it on the Internet. Well, “Aggie SWAG” would certainly fall under this category.

Please, enjoy this video while hopefully not dumping gasoline on your computer and lighting it on fire.

  • Scout’s Take: Robert Griffin III is Selfish, Also Bad at Football

By Adam Kramer   Apr. 19, 2012

The NFL Draft cycle has several different phases. The overreaction phase has an early and late charge. The “high riser” phase hits just after workouts begin and freakish-type numbers, while the “his stock is plummeting” phase surfaces right around this time as well. Just before the draft, however, the “grasping at straws” phase kicks into gear, because frankly we’ve run out of things to talk to.

Enter: the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Bob McGinn, who spoke to different scouts on the different quarterbacks in this year’s draft. The fascinating part of this piece comes on Robert Griffin III, when one scout had to say the following regarding RG3’s attitude.

“He’s got a little bit of a selfish streak, too. Everybody was laying on Cam, but for some reason this guy has become gloves off. He doesn’t treat anybody good.” Another scout also questioned the way Griffin deals with people.”

And so it has gotten to this point. We’re questioning the character of Robert Griffin III with little explanation why we’re doing so.

I reached out to my own veteran scout, we’ll call him UNNAMED SCOUT for this exercise, to get the skinny on what RG3 is really like. The results are troubling, and he agreed that the Redskins could be in DEEP trouble if they draft him second overall.

Here’s what he had to say. (Note: Unnamed Scout is actually just me in a long car ride, but OH MAN WATCH OUT).

“He talks a little bit too much about it being his team. What does he think he own it or something? Is this a clue that he’d rather be in the front office than quarterbacking? Focus is a major concern at this point.”

“His accuracy is almost too accurate. It’s like he’s going above and beyond what’s required of him as a QB and drawing attention to himself in the process. There’s no need to hit a guy directly in the chest on a 12-yard in. Throw it high every once in a while, showoff.”

“I heard from a source that RG3 signed more than 1,000 autographs the night the Baylor women’s basketball team won the national title. There was one child’s program that he didn’t sign, however, and that young man cried for at least 10 minutes from what I’m told. RG3 heard about this and took photos with the youngster AFTER THE FACT. Geez. Is this who you want leading your team? Not me.”

“Why is he always smiling? It’s like he’s covering up some raw emotion that the world can’t see. Can you trust a man that is ALWAYS THAT HAPPY AND PLEASANT? Is this the guy you want to invest millions into? I question his attitude and if he’s truly happy, and I read a psych book in college once.”

“He’s fast and he likes to run when an opportunity presents itself. I, for one, wonder if he’d be better served to play wide receiver. I’d grade him out as a 3rd round pass-catcher overall and you certainly get some value with him in the wildcat.”

“Wearing Superman socks to the Heisman? I’m not sure he’s mature enough to handle the NFL, and I question his wardrobe efficiency. There’s a direct correlation between sock inadequacies and 1st round busts. Look it up, the evidence is mounting.”

“A true leader should be able to make the players around him better. Did you see the way Baylor’s defense played in the Alamo Bowl? Clearly he’s only impacting one side of the ball, which just isn’t enough.”

“Anytime a guy wins the Heisman, I have to question how well his skills will translate in the NFL. Heisman winners have a poor track record at the next level, and that’s not a trend I’m willing to go against. Looking elsewhere.”
